Make an undefeated victory with Asahi Hai Futurity Win

Six 2-year-olds entered Asahi Hai Futurity (G1) on December 19 with no trace records but only Do Deuce emerged with his imprint intact.

With Yutaka Take riding, Heart’s Cry colt has been loved, Serifos, one of the previous undefeated, in the final 100 meters to win Futurity by half the length. Danon Scorpion suffered his first defeat although a good late attempt put him in third.

The disappointment, at least for its owner, was Dobune. Intranet entrepreneur Susumu Fujita, a relatively new but enthusiastic owner, paid 517.1 million yen (about US$4.55 million) for Deep impact Colt in Chiba 2 years old sold earlier this year.

He also came to Futurity at Hanshin Racecourse with two wins and no losses but was only able to finish in seventh place, overcoming a few grueling opponents along the way.

Among the formerly undefeated juveniles, Geoglyphs complete fifth and Spirit the Sea, the only dirty person in the field, was reported 10th during her second start.

Do Deuce, get out The proof mare Dust and diamonds , was stationed in the second half of the field during the 1,600-meter (about a mile) Futurity run. Entering the sweep on the outside turf, Yutake rode the land lane, dashing out into the middle of the lane to launch his attack.

Serifos, one Daiwa Major The pony, riding Cristian Demuro, took the lead in the 100-meter run but couldn’t stand the belated rush of the winner in second place.

Take said: “Do Deuce is an honest pony. “We were able to run in a good and rhythmic position while watching the others. He reacted well when going straight into the straight line and despite his love of stubbornness and being hard to beat, he dug. significantly deep to the straight line.”

Futurity has in recent years been the springboard for important races at both distance and beyond. Salios won in Futurity 2019 and went on to finish second in both Satsuki Sho (Two thousand Guineas Japan, G1) and Tokyo Yushun (Derby Japan, G1) the following year. Admire Mars, the hero of 2018, won the NHK Mile Cup (G1) and the Longines Hong Kong Mile (G1) in 2019.

Yutake points out that the Do Deuce, bred by Northern Farm and racing for Kieffers Co., could follow those horseshoe tracks for longer distances as an option.

“He is getting stronger with every race,” said the famous equestrian. “We can look forward to the spring classics next year.”

Coach Yasuo Tomomichi said before the race he did not see distance as an issue for Do Deuce, the grandson of Silent Sunday and, at the bottom of his genealogy, a great-grandson of Seattle Slew .

“He can do it for longer distances in the race,” said Tomomichi, noting that his two previous wins came at 1,800 meters (about 1/8 of a mile). “But 1,600 meters in Hanshin should suit him.”

Although his ties see Do Deuce as a candidate to move on to the longer classics of 2022, 2-year-olds who are ready for those gaps will have one last chance same year in 2021 in the Hopeful Stakes (G1) on December 28. That number is at 2,000 meters (about 1 1/4 mile) above the Nakayama grass.

Hopeful’s last three runs were won by Danon the Kid, third in last month’s Championship Miles (G1); 2020 Japan Triple Crown Prize Winner Just Retired Opposite; and Saturnalia , winner of Satsuki Sho 2019.
