Lost dog with mysterious California card rolls up in Germany

It is a mystery that so many lost dogs were hundreds of miles away at the time they were found. But those distances are not comparable to a dog found in the ocean from home. A dog that looks like a Golden Retriever mix has been found in a German village, but its tag says it’s from Gilroy, California.

When someone finds the dog in Germany, they don’t know how to approach the situation. So they contacted the Gilroy Police Foundation for help locating the dog’s owner. When the California police officers heard where the mysterious dog was found, they couldn’t believe it!

Lost away from Home

The person who called the Gilroy Police Foundation did not know who the dog’s owner was. They said their neighbor found the mysterious dog, so they are trying to help them locate the owner. The only identification on the dog is a California dog license.

Police officers guessed that he belonged to a family of US military personnel currently in Germany. They also joked that maybe he got lost while out looking for bratwurst. They posted about the situation on Facebook, and of course, everyone’s first question was how the dog was in Germany after all.

“We tried to find out. I suspect he lives with a US military family. The person who contacted us knew nothing about the owner,” the Gilroy Police Foundation said in a comment.

Fortunately, the dog’s license is linked to the contact information, so police officers can look up the owner’s details.

Mystery solved!

It didn’t take long for the police department to locate the dog’s family. As it turns out, they are currently in Germany, but they are not a military family as suspected. Instead, they only visit some relatives in the summer when the dog is away. They did not say how long the dog had been missing.

“The owner has been located. Moral of the story, good idea to license your dog. You never know where they might turn up,” wrote the Gilroy Police Foundation.

This dog was fortunate not to be thousands of miles away from his family when he got lost, but it has happened to other missing dogs before. If only lost dogs could tell us about their crazy adventures!
