If new League of Legends Netflix’s Arcane series gets you in the mood to explore more of Runeterra, then you’re in luck. Yesterday, Riot Games launched not one but two new spin-off games. King of Ruins is an RPG with turn-based combat in which you will explore the world with a group of Alliance champions. Later, Hextech Mayhem is a cute looking rhythm runner.
I’ve been playing like a game of LoL and don’t like jumping into MOBAs again, so I’m looking forward to trying these out. RPGs are more of my favorite, plus I know League has tons of juicy lore that can be explored outside of competitive PvP content.
Ruined King is a single-player turn-based RPG developed by the Airship Syndicate, the creators of Darksiders Genesis. You’ll have a party of characters from the Alliance (Miss Fortune, Illaoi, Braum, Yasuo, Ahri, and Pyke), and will have to deal with the bad guys who cause a ghostly mist to fall over Bilgewater and the Shadow Isles .
Hextech Mayhem seems like a much lighter affair, where you’ll be bombarded with drones like a fluffy Yordles. Having just watched the latest episodes of Arcane, it seems a bit odd that they are so happily bombarding Piltover. I think there were quite a few explosions there.
Both games are published by Riot Forge, Riot Games’ new-ish publication label. They also announced another new product in the pipeline – Nunu’s song, a single-player adventure from Tequila Works (who created Rime). Nunu and their 2D action platform Conv / rgence both will arrive in 2022.
Ruined King is now available On steam, NS Epic game store and GOG costs £25/€30/$30. It’s also available on PS4, Xbone and Nintendo Switch. Hextech Mayhem can also be found On steam, Epic, GOG and the Switch costs £8/€9/$10.
