Once welcomed with open arms, wind turbines are falling out of favor in much of Germany as precious forests have been cleared to make way for major wind industrial sites.

Progress and awareness: Developments like these are becoming increasingly unwelcome in Germany, especially in the ancient forests. Icon image: Vernunftkraft.de.

Over the years, the splendor of the idyllic landscapes has displeased many Germans. Many people are actively opposing wind parks because their ugliness has become apparent.

German New Energy Website Blackout News here reports how one of the country’s leading biodiversity and nature conservation groups Naturschutzbund Deutschland (NABU) no longer wants wind turbines in the forest. Recently, the group criticized the planned placement of wind turbines in forests, which We recently reported on here. In the past, NABU was a particularly active proponent of wind energy.

“NABU requires at least all protected areas and all areas of historic old-growth forest, as well as areas of particularly ecologically valuable forest, to be excluded as sites for wind turbines. This was requested by NABU state president Holger Buschmann on Forest Day on March 21,” reports News of power failure. “The government’s goal is to preserve as much of the near-natural forest as possible.”

Germans across the country have become horrified that idyllic forests are falling victim to wind energy industrialization. Delicate ecosystems have perished and tranquil forests have been permanently disturbed. Reinhardswald, also known as “The Grimm’s Fairy Forest” in the state of Hesse was most recently the victim of Industrialization crazy wind park. The ancient forest has inspired some of Germany’s most famous fairy tales and dates back to the Middle Ages.

“The Hessian state government has planned 18 wind turbines that will require 35,000 hectares of forest to be cleared to install them,” reports Blackout News.

Blackout News writes: “From an ecological point of view, expanding wind turbines in forests would be a severely flawed development. “According to the NABU, the already devastated forest deserves the highest protection and is not considered a possible commercial area.”

Other groups are calling for “rapid change in forest management,” promoting “structure-rich deciduous mixed forests in place of monoculture crops, which are susceptible to drought and bark beetle infestations.”
