LA Beverly Crest shooting kills at least 3, injures 4 : NPR


LOS ANGELES — Three people were killed and four others injured in a shooting at a short-term rental home in an upscale Los Angeles neighborhood early Saturday morning, police said.

The shooting happened around 2:30 a.m. in the Beverly Crest neighborhood. This is at least the sixth mass shooting in California this month.

Sgt. Frank Preciado of the Los Angeles Police Department said earlier on Saturday that the three people killed were in a vehicle.

Two of the four victims were taken by private vehicle to area hospitals and two others by ambulance, police spokesman Sgt. Bruce Borihanh said.

Mr. Borihanh said two people were in critical condition and two were in stable condition. The ages and genders of the victims were not immediately released.

Mr. Borihanh said investigators were trying to determine if there was a party at the rental property or what type of gathering was taking place.

Borihanh said police had no information on the suspect. When the shooting ended, the compound was divided as investigators scoured for evidence.

Saturday’s early morning shooting follows the massacre at a discotheque in suburban Los Angeles last week that left 11 people dead and nine injured, and the shootings at two farms in Half Moon Bay that left seven people dead. died and 1 person was injured.

The killings have dealt a blow to the state, which has some of the nation’s strictest gun laws and the lowest gun death rates.
