Kylian Mbappe: La Liga criticizes the ‘scandalous’ deal that makes the PSG star receive the highest salary in the world | World News
Spain’s top soccer federation – LaLiga – has described the new contract Paris Saint-Germain offered striker Kylian Mbappe as “scandalous”.
Referring to the French club’s recent losses – which LaLiga said amounted to more than 220m euros (£186m) last season – the Spanish federation said the deal made the “physical integrity sports at risk”.
Mbappe becomes the highest paid player in world football, Sky Sports reports.
He will have a salary of around £1m a week after pocketing an entry fee in the region of £100m.
PSG have also made concessions on image rights, and Mbappe will receive bonuses for goals, Ballon d’Or titles and Champions League success.
The 23-year-old France international is tipped to leave the Ligue 1 champions for Real Madrid at the end of the season when his current contract expires on June 30.
Real, who were willing to pay €230m (£194m) to sign the striker on the last day of last summer, are ready to offer Mbappe a £110m signing fee and a fee 20 million pounds a year after tax.
Their total investment will be around £300 million.
LaLiga said it would “file a complaint against PSG before UEFA, French administrative and financial authorities and European Union authorities to further protect the economic ecosystem of European football.” and its sustainability.
It added: “This type of deal attacks the economic sustainability of European football, putting hundreds of thousands of jobs and sporting integrity at risk.
“It is scandalous that a club like PSG, last season, reported a loss of more than 220 million euros, after accumulating losses of more than 700 million euros in previous seasons (while reporting sponsorship income) questionable level) with sports staff costs of around €650 million for this 2021-22 season, could face an agreement on these characteristics while those clubs that can accept the appearance of player’s performance without seeing their wage bill affected, will be left without being able to sign him.”
Mbappe said he is “delighted to continue playing in France, the country where I was born, where I grew up and where I made my name”.
PSG President and CEO Nasser Al-Khelaifi said: “Kylian’s commitment to PSG represents an incredible milestone in our club’s history and a fantastic moment for us. with fans around the world.”
Mbappe was featured before PSG’s Ligue 1 home game against Metz – in which he scored a hat-trick.
