Klim HTD Resistance Gloves Gloves

With arctic air currents giving us single-digit ambient temperatures in New Jersey, most motorcycles are parked for the winter. However, there is still a small but devoted herd of polar bears that are determined to ride despite the cold, and for them, proper equipment is crucial. Klim Resistance HTD Gloves (HTD stands for “heated”) are specially designed for this type of application.

(HTD Resistance Gloves Gloves are part of Klim’s line of snowmobile apparel. Hard Gloves HTD designed for motorcycle use and offers more crash protection.)

The resistor has a light but modern design. The black polyester outer shell is accented with additional padding and a patch of 3M Scotchlite reflective material on the knuckles, with solid stitching throughout. The palms and fingers are matte black leather treated with 3M Scotchgard. A large strap secures the glove at the wrist, while the bright yellow glove strap clamps down to the cuff of the jacket. The glove itself opens up to a 5-inch wide opening and can be extended if necessary, which is more than enough space for most riders. Each glove features a 1.5-inch rubber face shield on the index finger, which is moderately useful in light rain and snow conditions. A large pull ring on the bottom of each glove allows great leverage to hold the glove tight.

Inside, a Gore-Tex windproof/waterproof membrane is sandwiched between the outer shell and a soft moisture-resistant “comfort fleece” inner lining, supplemented with generous 3M Thinsulate insulation. (200g on backhand and 100g on palm.) of these Vietnamese made gloves are excellent, with no loose threads, flaws or defects detected.

Power for each glove is provided by a 7.4VDC Atewa Li-Po battery, rated for 2Ah. The 2.1 x 0.5 x 1.8 inch umbrella fits neatly in a Velcro-sealed pocket inside the glove. A small backlit button on the glove allows the driver to turn the glove on and off and switch between 3 different heat levels. Press and hold the button for 3 seconds to power on to the default High Heat setting. (If left there, the setting will automatically go down to the Medium temperature setting after 10 minutes, to save battery.) Tapping the button allows the driver to choose between the High (red,) Medium (blue) setting. ) and Low (green) as needed and holding the button for 3 seconds will turn off the glove.

Runtime on battery varies depending on ambient temperature, but in low teens (mostly in my test mode) I was able to continuously use almost 8 hours on low, almost 3 hours at low power. average and about 1.5 hours on high. (All after charging the battery a few times.) One can expect more time in warmer ambient temperatures and less time in colder temperatures. An AC-DC charger that handles two cells simultaneously is included.

When out on the road, these gloves are extremely comfortable thanks to their plush interior, which is well insulated. Indeed, even without heating, they are warm enough to ride in the high 30s without activating the heating function. In colder conditions with the heating on, they reach peak temperatures in about 5 minutes and are better suited for extended rides in the single digits. Likewise, waterproof claims have been verified by submerging them in a bucket full of water for 20 minutes without a single drop of water leaking inside. Overall, these Klim gloves represent a great functional choice for my fellow polar bears, who brave any temperature that a sane motorcyclist would expect. can take risks.

The Klim Resistor HTD Gauntlet Glove retails for $249.99 and comes in sizes XS-3XL.
