Kia recalls 410,000 vehicles because airbags may not deploy

Kia Motors America (Kia) is recalling select Sedona, Soul, Soul EV, 2017-2018 Forte, and 2017-2019 Forte Koup vehicles. The Airbag Control Unit (ACU) cover can come into contact with the memory chip on the printed circuit board and damage the circuitry. Circuit failure can result in decommissioning airbags that will not deploy in the event of a crash.

Kia said the problem surfaced in South Korea last July. The company received 13 customer complaints and 947 guarantee request. Fortunately, no accidents or injuries were reported.

Dealers will check the Airbag Control Unit and update its software or replace it. As always with recalls, the work will be done for free.
