Key West flights with low fares and AAdvantage rewards available this winter


When planning travel to Key West, you often have to opt for cheaper flights to the south Florida peninsula cities like Miami or Fort Lauderdale, and then a drive to the Keys. Or, you can often find much more expensive – but convenient – flights to Key West itself.

This winter, however, you can find both affordable fares and convenience on flights to Key West…at least for now.

Key West is technically part of the continental US However, prices on flights to its airport can often be competitive and even higher than what you’d find for a flight further north. south, to the islands of the Caribbean.

That’s why we’re excited to see rates below $200 round-trip from several US East Coast cities – most notably the Washington area, from where we also found some Attractive prize prices on American Airlines.

Key West has some great resortsThe food and of course, the weather is warm even in winter, making it a place you’ll want to visit when temperatures drop below freezing in the coming months.

How to set: We recommend finding your itinerary on Google Flights, then booking directly with the airline.

We recommend booking as early as possible, as these are fares to Key West that we don’t often see, and as such, can disappear fairly soon.

Sample flights

We’ve noticed airfares of $200 or less between the East Coast and Key West. We’ve found widespread availability hovering right around the $200 mark outside of Boston and Washington during most of the late fall and winter months, but there are usually a few days per week (except holidays) that you can can be found under $200 round-trip fare.

If you’re traveling from New York, it’ll cost you a bit more than $200, but then again, compared to the $300 or even more than $400 fare we’re used to seeing to Key West, this is definitely worth it. Definitely an improvement.

Here are some of the best options we found:

  • Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) to Key West International Airport (EYW) for $180 for Americans.
  • Dulles International Airport (IAD) to Key West (EYW) for $168 on United.
  • Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) to Key West (EYW) for 12,000 miles A
  • Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) to Key West (EYW) for $218 on Delta.

It’s sure to get chilly in New England right after the new year, so this is a great way to escape the warmth.

Departing January 4 from Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) on board American Airlines, you will make a brief stop at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) before continuing on to Key West International Airport (EYW), arrive before noon.

You’ll be able to enjoy the morning hours by the pool or on the beach before departing 2:59pm home, with a short stop in Charlotte on the way back.

We also found some availability in Boston for Black Friday departures, so if you want to enjoy a long weekend in Key West right after Thanksgiving, there are options.

One of the best deals we found was mid-December – right before much higher holiday prices kick in – on United Airlines. Departing from Dulles International Airport (IAD) outside the Washington area, it’s a three-hour nonstop flight down to Key West, with a slightly shorter flight north. The ride costs $168.

We also found a number of prizes available from the Washington area if you’re looking to book some flying miles towards a Key West getaway.

You can get a round trip flight from Dulles on American Airlines (with stops in Charlotte in each direction) for 12,000 Advantages miles, a Special Site comes with less than what you’d normally see for flights to Key West.

Key point

While we don’t usually flag $200 flights within the continental US – let alone those that are not intercontinental – we will make an exception when it comes to Key West.

While you can often find cheaper deals to Miami or Fort Lauderdale, this one will allow you to experience all that Key West has to offer without the need to rent a car and spend extra time on the road. road… all while escaping the frigid winter weather, of course.
