Real Madrid star Karim Benzema had to limp off the field with an injury in the match against Real Sociedad in the round of 16 of La Liga and Carlo Ancelotti replaced the striker with Luka Jovic.
Benzema’s 16-minute problem involved his left hamstring, and the soon-to-be 34-year-old will be reevaluated to determine the extent of the injury.
The France international has been in incredible form this year, scoring 35 goals in 46 games in 2021 against Real Sociedad. This season, he has 17 goals in 20 official matches.
The striker was shortened after making a run down the left flank and was unable to continue, although he could limp off the pitch under his own strength.
The first impression of Ancelotti is that the injury is not a cause for concern.
“Benzema’s situation doesn’t seem serious at all, but I don’t think he will be available on Tuesday,” Ancelotti told reporters, referring to the Champions League final against Inter Milan.
How long will Benzema be sidelined?
Benzema’s condition remains unclear until he undergoes tests on his left foot this week, although it looks like he will at least miss the midweek Champions League clash with Inter.
“Karim had a problem, it bothered him a bit and it didn’t think [he will be there] on Tuesday, but possibly Sunday,” Ancelotti added in his post-match press conference.
Real Madrid still won the match against Real Sociedad with a score of 2-0 to extend the La Liga lead to eight points, but they have a difficult schedule coming up: After the game against Inter Milan to won the Champions League group D. seed, there is a weekend derby against Atletico Madrid that could potentially affect the title.
After that tour, Ancelotti’s side will meet Cadiz and Athletic Club before the end of the calendar year.
