India U17 women’s football team lost 0-7 to Italy

The India U17 women’s football team suffered a humiliating 0-7 defeat to Italy in the opening match of the four-nation tournament at Grandisco D’lsonzo Stadium in Udine.

Coach Thomas Dennerby’s side started the game by trying to push the opponent up and making mistakes from there.

The ball appeared from both sides and Italy awarded a free kick in the fourth minute. Beatrice takes a free-kick on the fence but narrowly misses the target.

Italy nearly took the lead in the 10th minute when Dragoni had just let India keeper Monalisa beat him but the player then stretched and made a superb save to deny the Italian keeper.

However, India’s tackle soon fell apart because just a minute later, Maria Rossi had the ball in the net.

After 22 minutes, Monalisa was once again called in by Dragoni, but the player shot out of the box to receive a corner.

India came closest to scoring after half an hour when Anita attempted to shoot from long range to catch up with the Italian defence, but her shot was missed by a beard.

The offensive game was opened later when Anna Longobardi and Giulla Dragoni scored in the 31st and 33rd respectively, giving the Italians a much-needed cushioning opportunity.

In the 36th minute, Kajol’s shot missed the target as India led Italy with a score of 0-3 at half-time.

Italy caught up right from the spot they had left in the first half when Manuela Sciabica scored in the 48th minute.

Two quick goals followed and within 15 minutes of the second half, Italy had extended the gap to six goals.

Dennerby made some changes in the 60th minute as Neha, Rejiya, Babina and Pinku came on for Nitu, Lynda, Kajol and Shelja respectively. Marta Zambomi scored the final goal of the game in the 67th minute as she extended Italy’s lead to seven goals.

During the contact tour, the Indian team will compete in two tournaments to prepare for the U-17 Women’s World Cup in India from October to November.
