Jesus Ramos stops Joey Spencer in seven innings one way
By: Sean Crose
Super heavyweight 19-0 Jesus Ramos entered the ring Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas to fight an undefeated slugger, Joey Spencer 16-0, in a match scheduled for ten. . Ramos-Spencer is the co-lead of the David Benavidez-Caleb Factory pay-per-view event. A Ramos left hook knocked Spencer out at the end of the first half. Spencer got to his feet and Ramos charged in. However, Spencer fought back fiercely. It was a great start, with the boxers tapping their gloves to admire each other at the sound of the bell.
The bigger, stronger Ramos hit his man hard in the second round. It would be unlikely that Spencer would eventually win the war if he hadn’t changed his game plan. By the third round, as brave and as gamer as he was, Spencer simply wasn’t a boxer of the caliber of Ramos. Spencer could have kicked Ramos -hard – in the last minute of the fourth… but Ramos was unaffected. By season five, Spencer had barely survived.
The sixth saw poor Spencer look like a punching bag. In recognition of his credit, Spencer attempted to knock out his man early Saturday. However, Ramos only seemed to be resting for a moment, as he quickly came back to life and began to pressure his senior. Spencer didn’t make it to the end of the inning. His father/coach wisely gave up.
