Jermall Charlo was anxiously waiting to see if his name was chosen from Canelo Alvarez’s hat. However, while the current WBC middleweight champion is still playing the awaited game with the Mexican star, he will now patiently await the verdict of a Texas judge.
Earlier today, this 31-year-old man was arrested and charged with Robbery causing injury. The arrest stemmed from an earlier case involving domestic violence. An initial warrant was issued for his arrest. After the reservation, Charlo’s bond was placed for $10,000.
While Charlo has been officially arrested, he remains innocent of all charges until proven to the contrary. However, if the Houston resident is guilty of his recent charges, his sentence carries a prison sentence of 2 to 10 years.
The tenacious power hitter was last seen in the ring on June 19, 2021, scoring the decisive goal unanimously against Juan Macias Montiel. With the win, Charlo defended his WBC middleweight crown for the fourth time.
Most recently, PBC’s Al Haymon, the promotional banner Charlo fights under, offered Alvarez about $45 million to face Charlo in a pay-per-view headline set to take place on the 7th. May. However, for now, Alvarez has yet to make his decision.
Despite Charlo’s recent legal troubles, Alvarez has faced opponents bound in similar situations. In November 2019, Alvarez then fought WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalev, who was arrested a year ago for felony assault, but still fights while legal charges are pending. logic is still revolving.
