JD Power ranks the most reliable car brands


Lexus is the most recent top-ranked brand overall JD Power US Vehicle Reliability Studywith that leading the group of mass brands in the market.

The US survey reported an industry average of 186 issues per 100 vehicles (PP100), an improvement of six PP100 from 2022 – 182 PP100 for mass brands, 205 PP100 for brands high-class.

The lower this number is, the better, with the study looking at three-year-old vehicles that were first tested in the 2020 US Initial Quality Study and with their original owners. Six of the highest-ranked brands from this survey are still in the top 10.

Lexus has the best PP100 score with 133, ahead of the Genesis (144) and Kia (152). Mitsubishi (167), Toyota (168) and Hyundai, Mini and Nissan (170) continued to decline.

Tesla was included in the survey for the first time and placed bottom at 242 PP100, but it was not ranked because Tesla does not allow JD power to access owner information in states where that right is required by law. .

Below the industry average are Ram, Jeep, Honda, Porsche, Subaru, Volvo, Volkswagen, Chrysler and Jaguar.

Behind are Mercedes-Benz (240), Ford (249), Audi (252), Lincoln (259) and Land Rover (273).

The brands that showed the most improvement were Ram, with 77 PP100, followed by Volvo (41 PP100) and Nissan (35 PP100).

Regarding individual models, Lexus RX And Toyota C-HR rated as the most reliable.

The top cars in the segment include BMW X2 And 4 Lines, other car And Forte (Cerato), LexusNx, Small cooperative And Toyota Highlander (Kluger).

Other podium finishers in 17 segments include BMW Series 3, X1 And X3; Hyundai Santa Fe And elantra; Jeep Cherokee; Kia sorento And Sedona (Masquerade Festival); Mercedes GLA; Toyota Corolla; And VolvoXC90 And S60.

JD Power cited the growing amount of technology in new vehicles and its inherent complexity affecting reliability, with premium brands being the most affected.

Infotainment was the category with the most problems with an average score of 49.9 PP100, with twice as many problems as the exterior category in second place. Issues include outdated maps, difficulty operating the infotainment screen, insufficient USB sockets, and speech recognition issues.

After the study redesign in 2022, other categories include driver assistance; features, controls and displays; driving experience; seat; climate; Inland; and powertrain.

Compared to last year’s study, nearly two-thirds of vehicles had fewer replacements for parts like the smart key, headlight bulbs and brake rotors.
