Poland asked Germany for almost £1.3 million in compensation for the Nazi invasion and occupation during World War II.

In 1953, the communist authorities of Poland renounced all claims of reparations under Soviet pressure, which wanted to free East Germany, a Soviet satellite, from all responsibility.
