If you order a R107 Mercedes-Benz SL and a Isuzu Vehi side by side, at first glance, you will see that they have almost nothing in common. Sure, both cars with four wheels, lights and two doors, but other than that – there’s not much to take. It’s understandable for you to come to that conclusion, but I’m here to tell you that you DID WRONG.

In fact, there’s one thing that unites the R107 SL and VehiCROSS above all: a weird ribbed pattern on the door. On VehiCROSS, the chirping is super pronounced. It’s big and pretty much in the middle of the door. In SL, however, it’s a bit more subtle. The strange ribbing starts pretty much in the front bumper and continues along the side of the car. I venture to guess that you might not even notice that weird ribbed pattern R107 stamped into the metal plate along the bottom of the car. And it’s been there for years, almost 20 years!

It may not be quite the same design, but I really like to imagine that somewhere in the mid 90s of Japan, a designer looked at the Mercedese The R107 SL and realized its best feature – the oddly ribbed model – needed to be incorporated into their latest design.

Yes, I know, these weird ribbed things are not only found on these two cars, such as Mitsubishi Eclipse third generation and Pontiac Trans Sport. However, the The R107 SL and VehiCROSS are more diametrically opposed than any other car, yet united by one thing in common: the odd ribbing on the doors.
