Is your photo over-edited? Use this little-known Lightroom tool to find out

In post-production, it was easy to miss and go too far with our edits. But sometimes, it’s hard for us to know if we’re really overdoing everything. This little-used Lightroom tool is great for displaying edited images.

When I was first introduced to Photoshop 20 years ago, I thought all my Christmases had arrived at once. I’m doing a multimedia course covering photography, videography, website design, and of course, stills and video post-production. By far my favorite part of the course is playing in Photoshop, especially transferring animal heads to my friends. Then I settled into the fun and started to really learn what Photoshop can do with images. It’s an incredibly powerful tool that offers nearly endless editing opportunities. That was over two decades ago, and since then, all sorts of different software options have been available to photographers once they’ve returned home. But, how do you know when to say enough and stop with your edits?

That brings us to this great video by Mark Denney, in which he shares a little-known and little-used tool in Lightroom that can objectively show you if you’ve tweaked it. over-corrected or over-corrected. In his example, he uses a beautiful waterfall image with some vibrant falling leaves in the foreground and takes you through his editing process. In the process, you’ll learn some very simple techniques on how to really add amazing depth to your images, but the main takeaway is learning to understand if you’ve gone too far with color. and tweak your or if you haven’t really gone far enough. Lightroom has a simple to use tool and shows you very quickly if you need to go further or step back a bit. Have you used this before? Let me know your thoughts below.
