Is the wind/sun enemy Grassroot ‘Cultish’? (Peter Sinclair vs Kevon Martis)

DC-based Big Environmentalism has a fundamental problem: local residents don’t like or want super-large industrial wind turbines and multi-acre solar panels. It’s more than NIMBY because taxpayers’ money has brought in such (unnecessary, duplicate) machines. But also respecting the opposition’s reasonable concerns about loud machinery noise, adverse visual effects, health effects and property devaluation.

Kevon Martis, who has a daily job, fights the wind without pay. He doesn’t work for E&E Legal (according to Sinclair) but has an honorary title. However, Martis was very effective in taking a stance against rural industrialization by means of government measures.

Peter Sinclair throws gay commercials at Martis with Big Wind (and indirectly Big Oil) behind him. This post presents the latest from Sinclair, posted earlier this week at Yale Climate Connectionfollowed by a rebuttal from Martis (email to author).

In small towns in Michigan, local planning meetings have recently turned into bitter battles over wind and solar projects. Town supervisors report harassment on Facebook and public defamation. Often, opposition comes from a small number of people attending meetings in a community considering a renewable energy project—even if they don’t live there. And it’s not just happening in Michigan.

“If you look at the things that are being presented in our community, you see the exact same tactics whether it’s in Ohio or not,” said Ashlyn Newell, a teacher in Maple Valley Township, Michigan. Indiana or wherever you’re talking about. .

The anti-regeneration opposition is seeing success. A report from Columbia University found that restrictions on renewable energy projects appeared in 31 states. NPR report recently about a closed proposed solar project in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley. And in 2022, activists in Montcalm County, Michigan, stop wind power project 375 megawatt.

Some of these protests appear to have ties to fossil fuel interests. A key player in the renewable energy protest in rural Michigan is Kevon Martis, who works for E&E Legal, a lobbying firm based in DC. sponsored by from the fossil fuel industry.

Peter Sinclair is a radical leftist who, oddly enough, works for the fossil fuel-funded Michigan “Conservative” Energy forum. On the contrary, they have a branch called the Land and Freedom Alliance.

Peter admit The wind industry sponsors its work. He told an audience of about 40 in Saginaw County that he was funded in part by APEX Clean Energy, Detroit Edison and Invenergy. They all own fossil fuel production or, in the case of APEX, are owned by an investment company – ARES Management – which has large stakes in gas extraction, hydraulic fracturing and manufacturing. power output. (ARES CEO Tony Ressler has Labeling The “Fracketeer” of the anti-fossil crowd.)

These are Peter Sinclair’s sponsors: giant fossil fuel entity. However, he plays fossil fuel card against me as I have never received a dime from any fossil entity unless you charge my cashback credit card used to buy gas !

Now Peter says I am working for E&E Legal but I am not. They gave me the title of Honorary Senior Policy Member and nothing more. They liked some of my articles on energy policy. They have no way of participating in the local renewable energy war. And my attorney made that clear to Peter a few years ago.

Peter released a series of defamatory videos attacking me and my friends for standing up for our community and opposing irresponsible and helpless renewable energy development. What Peter doesn’t say is that he, like most of the local officials in his video, is on the payroll of APEX Clean Energy.

And he doesn’t tell anyone in his video that the APEX project in Montcalm County Michigan will cover 10-11 towns with wind turbines over 600′-300 square miles.

So while it was true that people from “other towns” showed up at neighboring town meetings, that was because the project spanned so many towns.

It’s ironic that Peter chose me to be the outside agitator in Montcalm. Peter lobbies this market (video This) where he talks about wind energy. They were poorly executed and little attended, and he did not have any kind of land title certificate at all. Is Peter from Montcalm County? Are not. He’s from Midland County and the wind turbines closest to his urban community are miles away. And unlike me, Peter is actually paid for his efforts and is paid by APEX Fracketeer, Invenergy and DTE Energy.

My participation in Montcalm is a Zoom lesson on wind partition. I also spoke at the local residents’ Big Wind Go Home rally (republish at MasterResource).

Peter and his company owners at APEX and Land and Liberty are working overtime in Michigan to remove the town’s control over the wind and sun site. They are using the Montcalm County experience to give a false narrative to the new Democratic majority in the Michigan legislature, which is: “One Man (I!) shouldn’t have the power to destroy the planet! He must be stopped at all costs and the way to do that is to take away the town’s control of the wind and sun.”

Oddly enough, in the Midwestern states of Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Wisconsin and Illinois, the two states with the least amount of wind energy development are those that have, or until recently, had state control. for wind location determination. (Ohio just reassigned wind locations to counties.) Michigan, Indiana, and Illinois have county or town wind location regulations with MORE installed wind capacity. https://windexchange.energy.gov/maps-data/321

The APEX tenants in Peter’s video argue that the local opposition “follows a script”. The only scenario used by locals is a state law that allows for referendums, initiatives, and recalls. And yes, that looks the same in every town because the state has made the same rules for every town.

But there is another script in the works in Montcalm, and Peter has well documented it. Harvest the officials, then harvest the wind.

Most of the local officials in Sinclair’s videos are under leases with APEX, but in most cases they are in favor of permitting wind energy development as officials despite that will go out of their own pocket. Later, when locals protested against a naked conflict of interest, developers and their minions like Sinclair accused the locals of “terrorist” and “sectarian” behavior. Interestingly, protests against local wind energy development have never reached the level of tactics used by PETA or Greenpeace. Michigan windbreakers have never chained themselves to bulldozers, attacked ships, glued themselves to the floor, or defaced priceless artwork. And Peter never attacked the actions of environmentalists.

Interestingly, a few days ago, Greta Thunberg shut down part of the Norwegian government when she protested against the development of wind energy by the indigenous Sami people. She calls the proposed development “green colonialism”. I won’t hold my breath waiting for Peter to attack her efforts or label her a terrorist or enemy of the planet. But her concerns about that development are mine: the locals must be protected from the irresponsible industrialization of rural spaces, green or not.

Ultimately, Sinclair’s ever more jarring attacks on me are a desperate attempt to gain relevance in a space where he doesn’t matter. Now he is only interested in trying to abort me.

But I can’t cancel. The freedom and comfort of home are worth defending, and the more times my flag goes up the pole, the more people greet it.
