Every dog can have its day, but during the summer days, dogs dedicated to enriching the lives of those in need of paw help are given an entire seven days to appreciate: International Service Dog Week.
The purpose is to recognize and honor hard-working service dogs; raise awareness and educate the public about how these specially trained animals are supporting so many in our community; honor puppy breeders and assistance dog trainers; and acknowledge the heroic deeds performed by the service dogs in our community.
When is International Service Dog Week?
International Service Dog Week begins on the first Sunday of August every year. In 2022, pet awareness week will be held from August 7-13, 2022.
The pet awareness week welcomes the possibilities of our four-legged friends who open up a world of potential for those faced with both physical and mental challenges.
When was this pet holiday established?
International Assistance Dog Week was founded in 2009 by Marcie Davis, founder of Working Like Dogs, host of the Internet radio show of the same name, and author of Working Like a Dog: A Guide to Service Dogs (which includes the late Betty White advancement of the famous animal lover).
What role do these dogs play?
Through their roles as visually impaired guide dogs, service dogs, auditory alert dogs, epileptic alert/response dogs, and medical alert/response dogs, these service dogs perform perform many different roles.
As well as celebrating the skills of service dogs, the week also pays homage to all those who have dedicated themselves to canine training for a future beyond just being a worthy assistant. price, but also a trusted friend and family member to someone dealing with a disability.
Are all service dogs retrievers or are they also other breeds?
Service dogs can be of many different breeds, including but not limited to:
- Labrador Retrievers

- Standard Poodles
