Instagram notifications are less annoying with ‘Silent Mode’


Let’s face it, Maybe we’re all spending too much time on Instagram. Even metathe platform’s parent company, knowing that apps can not good for users. In recent months, it has launched Features and characteristics aimed at making Instagram safer for teens—or at least secure enough that regulators won’t be cracked.

Now, Instagram has announced a number of features that can make the site less time-wasting. The first is a feature that WIRED has supported: message. New setting, called Quiet mode. It’s not quite as resolute as just turn off all your notifications, but it’s a start. You can also set Silent Mode to last a specific amount of time. When you go back to normal mode, Instagram will show you a summary of what you missed. (They need to make sure you get back to scrolling at some point.) If Instagram knows the user is a teenager, it will send them regular suggestions to use Silent Mode, which can might just annoy them.

Instagram is also getting another feature to make it less annoying to read. You can now hide suggested posts in your Explore page, which will also help guide Instagram’s algorithm to show you less content you don’t want to see. You can also ask it not to show you posts that contain or refer to certain words or topics. Any posts that contain the terms or topics you’ve unchecked will appear less frequently in Search, Explore, and Stories. (Unfortunately, you still can’t turn off Stories completely.)

Google also wants to find your content

Apple’s AirTags Are Totally Boring search. They are also easily exploited tool for stalkers. The simple location tracker was both effective and controversial, and Apple sold millions of them. Apparently, Google is also eager to get in on that game.

This week, rumors are swirling about the potential of Google Competitor AirTags. There is no official product announcement yet, but Kuba Wojciechowski, a developer and frequent Googler of secrets, has dig up some code that suggests Google may be working on such a device.

Of course, the existence of Google trackers is just a well-founded conjecture. There are no details on when the device might launch, how much it will cost, or even what Google will call it. Currently, it is known only by the codename Grogu. (Yes, that’s Baby Yoda’s name.)

Amazon frowns

Amazon has announced that they are shutting down their charity donation program, Amazon Smile. In a press release, the company wrote that its program, which works with more than a million charities, was “too thinly spread”.

While Amazon claims its decision to terminate Smile was a practical one, it may not be the only reason. Amazon has certainly felt financial stress due to the impending recession. In recent weeks, Amazon has laid off thousands of workers and cut spending on parts like Alexa platform and drone delivery program.
