Inside the collaboration between Destiny 2 and Assassin's Creed

Coinciding with the launch of the new Season in Destiny 2, Season of the Seraph, Bungie will bring a bunch of new content inspired by the Assassin’s Creed universe into Destiny 2. Guardians will have the chance to donate armor skins. and new cosmetics inspired by Ubisoft’s popular adventure franchise, including three new class-specific armor decorations: a Kassandra-inspired Hunter decoration from Assassin’s Creed Odyssey; a strong-looking Titan set inspired by Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s Eivor; and a mysterious Warlock set inspired by the iconic Altaïr from the original Assassin’s Creed. Additionally, Guardians will also be able to purchase a new ship, Sparrow, Ghost and a new finishing blow, all influenced by Assassin’s Creed lore.

Today, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is bringing new content inspired by Destiny 2. The new character pack will feature two new armor sets featuring Destiny characters Lord Shaxx and Saint-14, and two swords inspired by Destiny. a pair of iconic Exotic Destiny weapons: the Gjallarhorn Rocket Launcher and the Thorn Hand Cannon. Additionally, a new weapon pack includes four new weapons designed with Destiny’s subclasses in mind, including their own custom effects and gameplay perks.

Bringing history (and future) to life

For the Bungie team, the opportunity to bring the historic action world of Assassin’s Creed into Destiny’s sci-fi fantasy universe is a one-of-a-kind opportunity. That’s especially true when it comes to bringing the iconic Assassin’s Creed trilogy to life as the Guardians.

“We had to consider how each character we chose would fit into the different classes of Guardians of Fate,” said Ian McIntosh of Bungie. “It’s easy to imagine Altaïr as a Warlock because his long cloak perfectly matches the typical Warlock look in Destiny 2. We think Eivor, very tough and carries a shield, will make a difference. make a great Titan. And Kassandra works well as a Hunter because she has a lot in common with that class — that’s her lightweight leather and fabric outfit and her stealthy fighting style.”

“The character style in Assassin’s Creed, which I describe as fantasy inspired by the fashion of the historical period in which each story takes place, has a lot in common with what you might see in Destiny 2. ,” McIntosh continued. “Both games take inspiration from the real world and then bring in their own unique touches. However, one missing ingredient that you always see in Destiny 2 is the sci-fi element. For these armor decorations, we’ve mixed in some hard surface armor elements that have a classic Destiny look to them. The best example is the addition of the Guardian helmet, which replaces the human face.

“We of course wanted to incorporate some of the iconic design elements that define each class of Guardians of Fate into these armor sets. For example, we gave the long cloak to Hunter Kassandra, and we added a Warlock link-level item to the Altaïr set. In keeping with the Destiny lore, we changed the design of the shield on the back of the Eivor Titan armor, so that it looks more like a more traditional Destiny Titan shield.”

The team at Ubisoft have their own challenge: instead of sending the Assassin into the future, they put the Guardian into the past. Nowhere is this more apparent than with the new Gjallarhorn Sword found in the new Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Character Pack. The challenge here was not only to create a beautiful and functional weapon that Valhalla players would enjoy, but also to transform the famous Exotic Rocket Launcher from Destiny into a whole new form—a great sword. also useful on the battlefield during raids on the 9thorder century when its bullet counterpart was while taking down swarms of Hives or Vexs.

“We did a few design iterations and explored how Rocket Launcher might translate in the Assassin’s Creed world. Through the different designs we asked ourselves how many of those Swords and Rocket Launchers we could use while keeping the badge, wolf barrel and color palette as they needed to be centered. in all designs while still functioning. We’re basically making a gun sword, so we’re paying attention to where the bullets can be fired properly and still making sure there’s a good balance between the blade and the barrel.” Ubisoft’s JP Tan said.

As the Ubisoft team said, working on Destiny characters and weapon packs is work of love. “We want to make sure that if we want to build this weapon, we will do it right. This is our love letter to people who love the stories and experiences of these great games,” said Ubisoft’s Ren Gomos.

Destiny 2’s new season, Season of the Seraph, is available now and will feature a new three-person matchmaking operation called Heist Battlegrounds, as well as a new Exotic quest. Additionally, the new Spire of the Watcher dungeon will launch in Destiny 2 on December 9.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s latest title update is out now. In addition to the new Destiny content, the update includes two new missions for free. The first season, titled The Last Chapter, will provide an intimate conclusion to the story of Eivor the Wolf-Kissed. The second mission features Roshan from Assassin’s Creed Mirage, where you’ll see her in action with Eivor when they discover that they share a common enemy.
