Ime Udoka faces ‘significant’ suspension for violating group guidelines

Boston Celtics head coach Ime Udoka is expected to face “significant suspension” for violating the team’s organizing guidelines, according to a report from ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski on Wednesday.

According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, Udoka’s violation was in having a “consensual and improper relationship” with a member of the Celtics coaching staff. Udoka, 45, has been engaged to actress Nia Long since 2015.

This is not the first time an NBA team has had an infidelity scandal reported. Nearly a year ago to now, the Minnesota Timberwolves parted ways with their president of basketball operations, Glen Rosas, in part due to “a consensual and intimate relationship” he was with a member of the organization when he was married. Rosas joined the team in 2019.

Udoka – who led the Celtics to the NBA Finals in his first season as the team’s head coach – is not in danger of losing his job, but he will be subject to team discipline and that level of discipline. could be revealed as soon as Thursday, as reported by Wojnarowski. If Udoka is not on the Boston bench to start the season, assistant coach Joe Mazzulla is arguably the top candidate to replace him on an interim basis.

The Celtics will open their last season with Charlotte Hornets on October 2. Their regular season opening date is October 18 against Philadelphia 76ers.
