I’m spending too many points on my Nintendo Switch Online avatar

The conversion profile icon bonuses are new enough that I can’t resist, but I don’t need them

Nintendo has rolled out new Switch avatars, and if you’re a Nintendo Switch Online member, you can redeem Platinum Points to highlight your profile – these iconic “elements” cost between 5 and 10 points each, just in case you are hoarding. It’s a flash announcement and you’ll miss it, to the point where I think a lot of people miss newsand many others have not heard that these avatars are an ongoing thing.

I mean, even as an NSO subscriber for three and a half years (is it really that long?), I’ve found it incredibly easy to never click the Nintendo Switch Online icon on the desktop main of the Switch. I’m not in the habit of checking. But with the quests and avatars now being combined, I’m starting to investigate lightly more often. It’s low level FOMO!

For example, current Nintendo Switch Online rewards are based on Super Mario Odyssey and Animal Crossing: New Horizons will be rotated April 4 at 6 p.m. Pacific time.

Given the limited time and wave nature of these avatars, it’s easy to forget. If there is no recent reminder about RedditI missed the so-called “last wave” of Mario Odyssey Symbols. Among other images, there are Mario and Peach getting ready on the beach, the mermaid Lochlady from Lake Lamode, Tiara and Rango – or I call him Lanky Broodal. They get 10 Platinum points once, while wallpapers/frames cost five.

That said, out of all Mario iconography, I especially like the idea of getting kelp eyes with my eyes Komboo as my Nintendo Switch avatar. It will be a real conversation starter.

… Or maybe I should stick with Chincho Avatar. Huh! I know some players were hoping to get the New Donk City themed icons during this period, and I’m sure that day will come.

However, is this really a waste of points?

If you’re concerned about possibly “wasting” Platinum Points on silly little avatars, then you should double check when your points expire – it might not be a waste at all.

I’ll echo everyone’s sentiments and say that I’d love to be able to mix and match different icon elements without any restrictions, to create something more ‘me’, but my point is burning a hole in the pocket in one of two ways.

Did you mess up with any of these or are you sticking with the default profile icon choice? I’m curious what the next “featured” game will be Super Mario Odyssey.
