“I’m back and here to stay”
Andy Ruiz Jr may have been world champion before today – but he is confident that we have yet to see the best of him.
The former unified heavyweight champion who amazingly dethroned England’s Anthony Joshua at Madison Square Garden in New York in June 2019 before being disqualified at the end of the year when ‘AJ’ reclaimed the titles. WBA Super, IBF, WBO and IBO brands, return to the ring later this year with renewed vigor.
Ruiz is currently training with Alfredo Osuna following his split from Eddy Reynoso and this will be their first fight together on September 4 when Ruiz meets Luis Ortiz at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
Talking to FightHypeformer member of the ‘Canelo’ team said:
“I don’t want to pick an easy opponent and I don’t want to pick anyone.”
“I know Luis Ortiz is a hard worker and he is strong. He’s not someone you can look past but we’re ready. “
Ruiz has boxed just once since losing his aforementioned rematch at the hands of 2012 Olympic gold medalist Joshua, who will face Oleksandr Usyk in a rematch on August 20 in Saudi Arabia to try to become a three-time world champion, when he overcame Chris Arreola over 12 rounds in May 2021.
That performance isn’t classic Ruiz, however, according to the man himself, and he says he’s not satisfied with it.
“Hopefully you’ll see the best version of me and that’s why I’ve picked a good opponent.”
“I’m trying to do better on my last match because I wasn’t really impressed with my last fight and in this fight we’re going to move on.”
“I think I just need to be myself and let go while being careful with the backhand he got. It’s about making sure I’m prudent and smart.”
The California-based Mexican, who shocked the world with a win over Joshua by blocking him for seven rounds, was eager to make his mark against Ortiz Cuba –– whose last match was It was Joshua’s last fight in the sixth round. rival Charles Martin in January –– and prove that he will be a force to be reckoned with in the sport’s premier league once again.
“Style makes the battles and for me, this was possibly one of the hardest battles of my career because it was my first time fighting the left and there were so many things that we I have to adjust.”
“But I’m here to take risks and prove to myself and everyone that I’m here to stay.”
