Hyundai Home ecosystem launched in 2022 will include solar energy, charging, energy storage
Hyundai recently announced a coordinated home energy ecosystem that includes EV charging, solar power, and home energy storage.
Dubbed Hyundai Home, the service will provide a comprehensive shopping service for these products to Hyundai customers, the automaker said in a press release. It is slated to launch in certain markets in 2022.
Instead of letting customers choose from different suppliers, Hyundai will choose the best products and provide customers with a dedicated concierge to guide them through their purchase and installation. The automaker also notes that Hyundai Home will offer “one of the best warranties in the industry” – just like its cars.

A service that integrates home charging, solar power and energy storage could be a great addition to Hyundai Ioniq 5 intersection. Charging an electric vehicle from a home solar installation reduces the vehicle’s overall carbon footprint and the owner’s reliance on the grid. The Ioniq 5 is also equipped with two-way charging, potentially allowing it to discharge some of its power into energy-storage battery packs when needed.
The launch of the Hyundai Home also builds on previous suggestions from the automaker that the Ioniq sub-brand will go beyond cars. The Ioniq 5 itself will also be available through an innovative lease that allows people to interact try before they buy. Hyundai has said research indicates that electric vehicle buyers are likely to be large users of subscription services, so another rental model is worth trying.
With bi-directional capability is also possible with models like Ford F-150 Lightning, 2022 will be a year when some elements of electric vehicles begin to run on home energy in a way they never have before.
