Authorities closed a road after power lines went down and homes damaged early Sunday morning, in Hazel Green, Ala. Storms towed the system earlier on Saturday, which could bring tornadoes and flooding to parts of Kentucky.

HAZEL GREEN, Ala. – A series of severe storms damaged homes, knocked out electricity and toppled trees in parts of the southern United States late Saturday through Sunday morning.
Authorities closed roads in Hazel Green, Alabama, after power lines went down and homes damaged. Madison County Sheriff’s Office Share photo online included one of the power poles cut.
The weather also took a toll on businesses in Hazel Green, including Walmart, local news outlets reported. This community is located about 15 miles north of Huntsville.
Huntsville Utilities said service has been restored to parts of Hazel Green, but work continues with many downed power poles in the area.
A similar system toppled trees in the nearby town of Triana, about 20 miles southwest of Huntsville. Mayor Mary Caudle told WAFF-TV that about 280 residents had taken shelter from the storm Saturday night.
Madison, Morgan Cullman, Marshall, Jackson, DeKalb, Limestone, Franklin and Lawrence counties remained under tornado watch until 2 a.m. 3 a.m. Monday. Temperatures are expected to drop sharply as a cold front passes.
Storms bring a system earlier than Saturday brought flooding to parts of Kentucky. Governor Andy Beshear said Sunday that four tornadoes have been confirmed. No injuries have been reported. The strongest was an EF-2 tornado that caused significant damage in Hopkinsville on Saturday with estimated maximum winds of 115 mph, the National Weather Service said.
Temperatures dropped on Sunday after severe weather and winter storm warnings were posted from northern Alabama to southern New Jersey with up to seven inches of snow in some areas. Freeze warnings were posted from southern Texas to Mississippi.
