How your 17 years of support have saved 202 million animals

Since our humble beginnings in 2006, Animal Equality has been able to change the lives of animals thanks to the unwavering support of our compassionate community.

As the President & Co-Founder of Animal Equality, I am delighted to send you this message with gratitude for your unwavering support of Animal Equality’s mission – End cruelty to domestic animals. Thanks to you, Animal Equality has become the international animal rights organization it is today—changing the lives of hundreds of millions of animals every year.

Our work began 17 years ago with Jose Valle, Javier Moreno and I against the treatment of domestic animals in Spain. We start with a small table covered with a piece of cloth. A few photocopied flyers, handmade posters and a donation tin are all we have. But this doesn’t stop us from using our voices to speak about the cruelty that animals face on factory farms.

Our first public action was at a slaughterhouse in Madrid. Javier and I, along with two other activists, chained ourselves to its entrance. We held up signs that said “Respect animals” and “Do not consume their exploitation”.

We continue to use the “human meat tray” illustration to represent the consumer need to refuse meat. We have taken down banners from some of the most notable bullrings, calling for an end to them. We have organized public demonstrations denouncing circuses and the slaughter of seals in Canada. And we performed at the headquarters of one of the largest meat companies in Spain, Campofrio.

Our actions have attracted a lot of media attention. But skeptics don’t believe what we tell them about the cruelty of animals used for food.

We took a camera and started showing them the truth.

Our first investigation was at a slaughterhouse in Spain—SEMAGI. Soon after, we completed a second investigation inside a pig farm that supplied meat to the very company we had opposed—Campofrio. Since then, we have spent many years investigating farms and slaughterhouses. We exposed the industry’s efforts to increase profits by exploiting animals. And we’ve inspired our followers to eliminate meat and dairy from their diets.

The animal agriculture industry is very angry. They started following me, my friends and other supporters. They were eavesdropping on my private phone conversations and spying on my family.

In the end, the police arrested me, along with ten other supporters, as we were on our way to film a slaughterhouse. I found myself in a cold, damp cell with only a mattress, a toilet, and a sink for drinking. As I was counting how many years I could spend in prison, supporters around the world opposed my release and the release of my friends.

Five days later, I walked out of that cell in Spain, promising the animals that I would do it all again. I will fight for their lives to the end.

Since then, I have kept my promise and have personally filmed inside 51 factory farms around the world.

These investigations are at the heart of Animal Equality. They are the most powerful tool we have for protecting domestic animals. Without these images, no one would believe how painful the animals must be when being eaten. We won’t have the evidence needed to fight for legal protections for animals or encourage consumers to make compassionate plant-based choices.

LIVE HAPPILY

With a rich love life and unbreakable family ties, pets deserve protection. You can build a kinder world by replacing animal food products with plant-based products.

But it’s not without your support that we have these images needed to create a brighter future for pets. And it is thanks to you that Animal Equality has grown from a small table with a few handmade posters into an international animal rights organization that has carried out more than 820 surveys.

This year only:

  • Following nationwide efforts by animal activists and a coalition of animal rights organizations—including Animal Equality—the U.S. Supreme Court has reached a historic decision in favor of the Bill. 12. This is the strongest domestic animal protection law in the United States, protecting hens, pigs, and cows from harsh confinement.
  • Animal Equality has begun working hard to change the Mexican Constitution to give Congress the power to legislate on animal welfare. After dedicated efforts, including gathering more than 100,000 signatures in support of the amendment, the reform is awaiting final approval by the Senate.
  • Using drone footage, Animal Equality has published an innovative investigation into UK fish slaughter boats off the coast of Scotland, uncovering shocking findings of behavior. mistreatment and abuse.
  • The team of Animal Equality in Italy has arrived in Brussels to present to the European Parliament a petition calling for an end to the breeding of fast-growing chickens. The committee will decide whether to leave this important petition open or close it. After fruitful conversation, it was decided to leave this petition open. This decision could positively impact the lives of billions of animals across Europe.
  • Following the efforts of the Animal Equality campaign and two other animal rights organizations, Conagra (iconic food purveyors Slim Jim, Chef Boyardee and Orville Redenbacher) has pledged to stop using pig cages. mother in its supply chain. Conagra joins Compass Group, the world’s largest foodservice provider, and Delaware North, the fourth-largest foodservice provider in the United States, in establishing policies that aim to eliminate some forms the most brutal confinement after the pressure of Animal Equality.

These advances, and many more, are not the work of Animal Equality alone, but the collective work of advocates around the globe—just like you! You have allowed us to conduct investigations and broaden consumers’ eyes on the realities of factory farming. You have joined the fight against the most brutal forms of animal abuse such as cows, pigs, and chickens. And you’ve helped expand our reach to spread the message that plant-based is the most powerful way to protect domestic animals.

But that’s not all! It is because of you that we are changing the law to protect domestic animals at the highest levels of government and prosecute abusers. Your signature petition and participation in the protests have shown politicians around the world why they support fighting animal abuse issues. With your support, more than 356 million animals have been affected by our legal work.

And it’s thanks to you that we’ve been able to convince some of the biggest companies in the world to abandon cruel farming practices, such as forcing mother pigs to live their lives in small cages.

But our work is far from over. Animal Equality won’t stop until this cruelty ends once and for all.

We need your support now more than ever. Our investigations are deepening, our regulatory strategies are getting stronger and plant-based resources are growing rapidly.

Your support has allowed us to continue our work of exposing cruelty to animals and advocating for more humane treatment of animals. For all the ways you show your support, whether you know Animal Equality from its humble early days or as an international organization like it is today…Thank you for your continuous support.
