“I sort everything in my wardrobe by fashion versus basic. It’s basically the ground floor of all my outfits. Black pants, black skirt, moto jacket, turtleneck, button-down. silk, denim and boots are all my basics Keeping all the basics in my color story to make sure I can mix and match everything to create outfits This adds value to every piece because I know I can wear everything in at least five different ways. Every time I shop for the basics, I ask myself ‘Will I feel good? great in this?’ If the answer is no resounding yes, then I move on. It feels like boring pieces, but this is where I recommend investing in your wardrobe. I find myself pulling buttons all the time. silk, loose skirts and big boots every morning because I feel great in them and so these are the items I will Invest in.
Fashion is where I play with colors and trends. For example, this year pink is a really trendy color that I want to play with. I can buy a low-priced pink sweater, coat, and scarf for under $200. Now I can just use thre items to pop the pink in all my black and white outfits. I probably wouldn’t tailor my fashions or invest in a high price tag in this category. I know I will probably only wear this color for one season, so I keep it minimal and fun. I’ll keep up with the trend by getting my nails done to match and maybe picking a fun lip color to coordinate with the look. This could be a category where you find a statement shoe, a trendy bag or even a loose blouse.
