The mouse is probably the most common input device – you don’t need it just when using a touchscreen or if you’re an ‘old school’ keyboard expert or maybe if you’re using some sort brain-computer interface. With the mouse, you simply point at an object on the screen, click a button once or twice, and you’re done – all the basic controls are done very simply and efficiently.

Today, there are cheaper mass-market optical models that are more precise laser-based alternatives for gamers or designers. You may also purchase certain niche products, including vertical or 3D mice. Their typical specs usually refer to things like frame rate, resolution, reporting ratio, or image sensor size. But what do these parameters mean? Why and how important are they when you move the mouse by hand?
