How can you take good pictures in boring locations?

Do you think the places around you are boring and really not worth your time? This will help you inspire and breathe new life into your photography.

When I moved to the extreme southwest of Japan nearly 15 years ago from near Tokyo, I thought I was the luckiest person alive. I am leaving a tumultuous metropolis for a place full of mountains, valleys, volcanoes, and beautiful waters. During the first few years I was here, I shot every opportunity I got and spent wonderful hours walking around these landscapes, looking for countless photo opportunities. But after I got married, had kids, and bought a house, I started looking for reasons not to go out with my camera. The weather, the light, and the timing all give you a good workout, but I also feel guilty thinking I’ve captured everything worth capturing.

Of course, that’s total nonsense and it also brings us to this amazing video by Nigel Danson in which he takes you on a lovely outing in the hills and valleys near Sheffield, England. The purpose of the video is to show you how any location, regardless of genre, can offer you the exciting potential of great visuals. Of course, some places allow you to take more spectacular photos because of their natural beauty, but Danson shows you how to find inspiration for things you might otherwise have considered mundane. A perfect example would be to simply remove your camera from the tripod and move it a step sideways to compare compositions. Really, calling a place boring is just a fallacy, and I’m as guilty as anyone. Let me know your thoughts in the comments section below.
