How Brittney Griner’s Wife Is Supporting Her As The Trial Begins In Russia
When the WNBA All-Star Game ends on July 2nd, hearts and minds will be with you Brittney Grinerhonorary initiator Not in the building.
But no one’s heart or mind is more devoted to the two-time Olympic gold medalist, who has been locked up in Russia since February 17 for drug smuggling, than her wife of three years, Cherelle Griner.
“BG is struggling, she’s human,” Cherelle told Rev. Al Sharpton June 29 in his SiriusXM show Keep it real. “She’s there terrified, she’s there alone.”
Brittney was detained at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo airport after a search of her hand luggage is said to have discovered vape boxes containing hash oil. On April 29, the US State Department classified her as “wrongfully detained”.
Many stars from the WNBA and NBA, including LeBron James, spoke on her behalf, asking the US government to take her home. A new “Free Brittney” campaign has hit social media, with fans subscribing to games to keep her plight front and center for the cameras. A floor decal with her initials and jersey number, 42, was installed on the sidelines of all 12 WNBA venues.
