How are fill lights used for portrait photography?


It’s perfectly possible to create professional-grade portraits without resorting to a single keylight, but once you switch to a multi-light setup, you’ll have a little more creativity and control. more technical towards the final image. The fill light is essentially a supplement to the main light. Its job is to soften the shadows produced by the main lamp. Sometimes, whatever modifier you’re using can create a little too much contrast and not particularly flatter your subject. Fill light allows you to soften those shadows by adding some light back into them. Therefore, the effective power of the auxiliary lights will be less than that of the main lights, since the idea is to soften the shadows rather than eliminate them altogether.
