Honda’s motobike will stop the nametag Insight and re-introduce mixture variant of its compact sedan staple which is really a rebranding of what the company has sold. Yep, you read that right. Civic-Hybrid-in-everything-but-name will be one again Civic Hybrid – soon, and with little difficulty.
“Hybrid electric vehicles are effective in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and is a key path forward to Honda’s vision of 100% zero-emission vehicle sales in North America by 2040,” said Mamadou Diallo, Vice President of Automotive Sales at American Honda. within the Honda lineup, a strategy that will be enhanced with the arrival of the Civic Hybrid in the future.”
“In the future” is the key phrase there, which means that Honda will not simply improve Insight like a Civic Hybrid and kick it out the door. The civic was redesigned last year, which means that Insight is no longer on the most recent version of that platform. On top of that, Honda’s announcement promises that its hybrid models will “represent the top and best performing models in the lineup,” which certainly wouldn’t have happened if the Insight had simply been revert to the status quo.
Since being reintroduced to 2019 Honda Insight basically a Civic Hybrid with some aesthetic deviations. Previous generations were much more like the Prius, with almost none of the visual characteristics of other vehicles in Honda’s lineup. Honda is now scrapping the slate and calling it what the Insight is, and is in the process of resurrecting a Civic variant that was discontinued after 2015.
