Honda Gold Wing recalled to update ECU to prevent stalling

Venerable Honda Gold Wing is receiving a recall affecting only manual transmission models of long-distance passenger cars.

According to NHTSA documents, the recall affects 1,740 vehicles from the 2020-2022 model year and involves ignition timing programmed into the bike’s ECU.

This recall does not affect any Honda Gold Wings fitted with the company’s dual-clutch transmission (DCT).

The problem stems from an improper ignition timing program, which can slow down time if the clutch lever is pulled within a specific range, while shifting in second gear or higher with the throttle closed.

To fix the problem, Honda dealers will update the ECU software free of charge. Owner notice letters are expected to be mailed by August 20, 2022.

Concerned Honda Gold Wing owners can contact American Honda Motor Co. customer service. at 1-866-784-1870. As always, NHTSA is available at 1-888-327-4236 and safecar.gov.
