HISA’s Lazarus addresses registration concerns


As the Thoroughbred industry approaches July 1st the implementation of the Equestrian Integrity and Safety Authority’s Race Safety Program implementation, HISA CEO Lisa Lazarus in an open letter addressed concerns regarding the application process on May 29.

Lazarus wrote:
Dear thoroughbred racing community stakeholders,

We appreciate your support in disseminating the need to register with HISA before the Raceway Safety Program comes into effect on July 1, 2022. We’ve noticed that some users recently encountered a technical problem with the HISA registration platform.

The main problem is with the text message-based two-factor authentication system, a standard measure to ensure an extra layer of protection. Our technology team has found that, despite success in previous tests, in many cases HISA text message verification codes were broken by telecommunications service providers. mistyped as spam. While we became aware of this issue a few days ago, unfortunately it took longer than expected to determine why it was happening. It is now fixed, but it will take more than a week for the fix to fully propagate through these vast systems. As a result, we’ve suspended the account verification requirement and continued to secure the account with alternative methods.

While our help desk operators have been working around the clock, we understand that many subscribers have experienced delays in receiving verification codes and/or responses from the helpdesk. help. We sincerely apologize for any disappointment this delay has caused.

Registration for

All users who do not receive a verification code after completing the process are automatically verified and will receive an email (or received) notifying them of successful registration and providing their HISA number . Tomorrow, we’ll also start an outbound campaign to verify that automatically verified users received the appropriate notifications.
