There’s a part of us that wishes we were paid or paid more for our photography work. However, there are usually some perfectly valid reasons why we don’t do so. Here are some great examples of why you’re not getting paying customers.
Several times a year, I sit back and look at the pictures on the wall and the magazines lying around my house at home containing some of my stories and pictures and wish I could work full time as is a photographer, or at least well-paid. better for the work I create. I fantasize about traveling to remote locales with cobalt blue waters, golden sands and mesmerizing waves to photograph surfers for big-paying brands. Those images are often given by my wife asking me if I take the trash out or my daughters punching me for taking up so much living room space, but the truth is, I’ve never worked full-time. photographer mainly for me. I’m really terrible at putting myself out there and asking people to pay me.
It is a very common reason cited by many incredibly talented photographers and artists for not taking the giant leap of faith and monetizing their creative talents. And that topic brings us to this great video by Laura BC in which she outlines some of the reasons photographers don’t get paying clients. I especially like the first reason, which is simply that you’re not reaching enough people. As a general rule, business is a numbers game, and the more people see your work and talents, the better your chances of getting paid. That’s why advertising exists – more eyes on your product or service. As Laura says, simply sending out a handful of emails a week and waiting for the money to come in simply won’t work.
