Intelligent, complex and fascinating animals
Octopuses feel joy and excitement but also pain and fear. They are extremely intelligent and have been known to use shells for protection, steal food from traps set by fishermen, escape from aquariums and even decorate their homes. They communicate with each other through complex color changes and flickers that are not yet understood by humans. Keeping them on farms will lead to unusual aggression, cannibalism, injury and death as they fight and attempt to escape.
Octopus welfare? Think
Currently, there is no law in Spain that protects the rights of octopuses, leaving these animals vulnerable to attack by unscrupulous profiteers who can keep them in any condition. and inflict untold pain upon them that is completely unchallenged.
Scientists have concluded that octopuses are sentient and cannot be raised in a way that does not affect their well-being. It is cruel to confine these fascinating individuals — or any other animals — to a barren tank of water.
At the end of their miserable lives, the octopuses would be slaughtered, experiencing horror and pain as their brains were cut in or their heads clamped in.
Environmental disaster
Octopus farming is unsustainable because it is inhumane. It will put additional pressure on the oceans, as wild marine life will have to be fished to feed them, further depleting fish populations and disrupting ecosystems.
