Heavy rain hits Florida, flooding vehicles in Miami

Parts of South Florida experienced street flooding from heavy rain and winds Saturday as a system of hurricanes hit Mexico moved across the state.

Officials in Miami warned drivers about road conditions as many cars were stuck on flooded streets.

“This is a dangerous and life-threatening situation. Traveling in these conditions is not recommended. It is better to wait. Turn around, don’t drown,” the city of Miami tweeted.

Atlantic hurricane season officially begins on Tuesday. This is an unusually early but not unprecedented start of hurricane season for Florida.

The National Hurricane Center predicts that up to 10 inches (25 cm) of rain is possible in South Florida, including the Florida Keys. The storm is not expected to generate high winds or high tides. But there is a possibility of local flooding.
