Heartbroken dog lost half of her snout to a shot, but she still found love

A rescue dog named Nona has a traumatic past, but she doesn’t let that ruin her optimism. One shot caused the Jack Russell Terrier/Retriever mix to lose half of her muzzle and she ended up in a shelter while she recovered.

After she feels better, Nona has a little trouble finding her forever home. She went through two adoptions that didn’t quite fit so bounced both times. Now, after several years, Nona is finally where she belongs, and she has put her painful past behind her.

Nona’s Terrible Wounds

In 2018, someone shot an innocent dog with a gun, causing it to lose half of its snout. An animal welfare group rescued her and helped her recover. They were surprised to see that Nona was a very happy dog despite going through a lot of pain. When she was feeling her best, the shelter began looking for an adopter.

When Nona found a family, the shelter staff were overjoyed. The adopters loved Nona, and they cared for her for a while, but unfortunately, things didn’t go as planned. Some unexpected circumstances lead to the family needing to bring Nona home.

The shelter Nona went to was already operating at full capacity, so they requested Kentucky Humane Society if they let her in. Of course, the Humane Society of Kentucky fell in love with Nona in an instant and agreed to take her away. They have a lot of experience with dogs with a difficult past and they are best known for their upbringing Ethan, the rescue dog.

Nona’s previous family had several cats, but she was fine with them after adjusting to her new home. The Humane Society also notes that she can be a selective dog, so she needs to meet the dog’s future siblings before adopting.

A new life for Nona!

After the Kentucky Humane Society shared Nona’s story on social media, it didn’t take long for someone to express an interest in her. A family adopted her, but sadly, it didn’t last long. She didn’t get along with the other pets in the house, so she bounced back again. Then she started looking for a home where she could be the only pet.

Since this was Nona’s third time looking for a family, she was a bit discouraged. Although she looks different from other dogs, she has no special medical needs. However, the shelter admits that her injuries caused her to snore loudly, but that’s part of her charm!

“Despite everything Nona has been through, she is still the happiest dog on the planet! She doesn’t know strangers and greets everyone with a big tail wag and a smile. She loves toys (anything that makes a noise that makes her happy), runs around outside, goes for walks, and gets her belly rubbed,” the Kentucky Humane Society wrote.

The Humane Society of Kentucky has posted pictures of Nona that are irresistibly adorable. So now she has found a permanent home where she can be the only animal. Hopefully this is where she wants to be. She deserves a life of love and pampering after all she’s been through.
