Hearn: Canelo wants to fight in London in December

The ability of Canelo Alvarez to fight in the UK seems to be getting stronger.

His promoter Eddie Hearn has revealed that the undisputed super-middleweight champion will fight three times this year rather than the reported two. On May 7, Canelo will become two-time light-heavyweight world champion with Dmitry Bivol before taking on former rival Gennadiy Golovkin in September back in super-middleweight.

Rumor has it that Canelo could then compete in Mexico in December in cruisers against WBC champion Ilunga Makabu. However, it seems London is clamoring to follow Hearn.

“Canelo wants to fight in London in December,” Hearn told Talksport.

“So John Ryder or [the winner of] Joshua Buatsi vs Craig Richards. We are ready to supply him for one of the battles in London.

“Buatsi vs Richards is a fight where the winner can bet on such fights with Canelo. Currently, they are two promising domestic, world-class companies.

“You need to go out there and get into such a big battle at O2 to start calling out a legend like Canelo Alvarez.

“He’s going to want a dance partner in the UK.”
