Rather than being a “melting pot” or “salad bowl”, Hamtramck is more of a “seven-layer pie” where different groups retain their distinct cultures while co-existing closely, forming newly elected member Amanda Jaczkowski said. “People are still particularly proud of their culture, whereas if it’s assimilation, we lose our uniqueness.”
