Haney names possible opponents for the next fight
Undisputed lightweight champion Devin Haney has named two opponents he wants to face if a rematch with George Kambosos Jr doesn’t happen.
There is a contractual obligation put in place for Haney to face the man he beat on June 5 again. The Australian is expected to choose that option but in his interview with Mark Kriegel, there was no definite answer as to what he would do next.
“Honestly, we need to sit down with the team, my dad Bob [Arum], and we’ll figure out what’s next, and obviously it has to make sense for me and my team. But I’m a real boxer. I’m ready to fight anyone, anywhere, anytime. If all that makes sense to me and my team, then we’re open to doing it again.
“I like Loma and I like ‘Tank ‘Davis. Those are the two games I’d be interested in if George Kambosos and I don’t rematch. Those are the two battles that we really want to make.”
Sitting next to him was his father, coach and manager Bill, who, due to visa problems, arrived in Australia at the last minute. guide his son to glory.
“We signed to not only beat him once, but beat him twice. But like Devin said, everything has to make sense because from a business standpoint it has to make sense across the board. ”
Many believe that the return match between Haney and Kambosos is a pointless exercise like convincing way of American victory. The two judges scored it 116-112 but the 118-110 from Pawel Kardyni is a lot closer to what Haney achieved at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne.
Kriegel asked Haney if he thought the fight would be so easy.
“I can’t say I’m necessarily surprised because me and my team studied him for weeks, for months, the entire training camp. We knew what he had and what he didn’t, and we just dissected him and took him apart like I knew we would.”
