Halo Infinite Xbox players want to opt out of crossplay to avoid PC cheaters

Halo InfiniteIts multiplayer beta has only been out for a few weeks, but the free-to-play FPS doesn’t have effective anti-cheat and it’s really starting to show up. Players have posted clips on social media of alleged cheaters using wallhacks, aimbots and more. Now, Xbox Halo players are asking the developers of 343 Industries to provide an option to turn off cross-play, so they don’t have to deal with nasty PC hackers.

Some of the earliest examples of cheating were posted to Reddit less than a week after multiplayer was released. In this clip, you can see the player we’re looking at tracking enemy heads through walls, which, I can confidently tell you, is definitely not a feature.

More recent alleged fraud clips show some pretty obvious wall hacking and targeting activity. The person in this don’t even point their guns in the right direction for half of the lives they get, while this player have a sniper rifle so accurate that they just aim at the wall next to someone’s head! A skill that certainly cannot be taught.

Halo Infinite has had automatic cross-platform play between PC and Xbox since it launched, with no option to opt out. Cheating is obviously bad for everyone, but it’s even worse for console players who know they can play without PC hackers. As a result, Xbox players are asking for the option to disable crossplay.

“Besides being easy to play on consoles, avoiding PC cheaters is the biggest reason why I don’t play on PC” Meiie, Reddit user said. “This is really important and I think not having this option right now is going to be pretty hard on us players who, on consoles, have to deal with the infiltration of cheaters these days on PC. .”

This is not the first time console players have faced this. Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare PC cheaters also pushed everyone on console out of cross game (but at least they have the option to join the console-only lobbies).

It’s also worth noting that, in Halo Infinite rated games, players can choose whether they’re a good match for controller or mouse and keyboard players. However, you can still use the controller on your PC, so there’s no guarantee you’ll avoid hackers that way. Here’s hoping 343 is looking into the matter, it looks like some anti-cheat will go a long way.

It’s a shame that some people come across these dodgy players, because Halo Infinite is so much fun. I quite like what I’ve played so far and I totally agree with Ed when he says it’s the most stable FPS he’s played all year.
