I’m Groot! The catchphrase of one of the most beloved characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is also the title of his new spin-off series. Groot is getting ready to have five animated short films as a mini series, and it will be a direct-to-OTT release. In recent times, many franchises are using this route to feed their marketable characters into a spin-off series to exploit its massive popularity. Following the popularity of Baby Yoda from the Mandalorian series based on Star Wars, Yoda will also receive a solo series. Similarly, the Minions also have their own series after the popularity of Despicable Me. But fans aren’t complaining as it allows them to see many of their favorite characters in action. Groot has a miniseries on Disney + Hotstar
‘I Am Groot’ will be a series of five animated shorts, similar to the Pixar shorts you can watch on Disney + Hotstar. The movie will completely revolve around Groot and his adventures on alien planets. The series is a spin-off and will not include any Guardians of the Galaxy characters or any other Avenger. Interestingly, the story takes place in the main Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline.
“It actually takes place between the end of Guardians 2 and before the card scene in Guardians 2. So it’s in this narrow window where Groot is in that post-toddler stage of development,” Head of Development online Brad Winderbaum of Marvel Studios told ComicBook.com. So this means that while Groot’s age won’t be the age of the adorable baby from GotG 2, it won’t be the teenage Groot from Avengers Infinity War either. It would be something in between.
The program’s OTT release date is announced as revealed by the official Disney+ Twitter manager that the original short film will start streaming from August 10. Since Disney+ is partnering with Hotstar, Indian audiences will be able to watch it on Disney+ Hotstar. Please note that you will need a paid subscription to be able to view it.
