GMC Hummer EV and Brightdrop electric truck delivered, first of many Ultium EVs to come

The first electric cars based on General Motors Ultium Architecture are customer oriented.

GM on Friday confirmed that the first customer 2022 GMC Hummer EV has been completed, as well as delivery of the first BrightDrop EV600 trucks to FedEx customers. In both cases, GM has met previously announced timelines to launch these vehicles later this year.

Production of the Hummer EV and other upcoming EVs will be done at GM’s Hamtramck plant in the Detroit area, now known as Factory Zero after a $2.2 billion overhaul. Pre-production cars started rolling off the assembly line last month. GMC is currently building the slated vehicle for customers and has confirmed via a press release that deliveries will begin soon.

In its Version 1 debut form, the Hummer EV boasts three motors that produce a combined 1,000 horsepower and 1,200 pound-feet of torque, helping the truck accelerate from 0-60 mph in 3. .0 seconds despite a weight restriction of just over 9,000 pounds, GMC said. That curb weight is also off-limits for required EPA testing, but GMC quotes a 329-mile range. Prices start at $112,595, but cheaper versions and a GMC Hummer EV SUV are planned to follow the Version 1.

BrightDrop is a new independent GM business that initially focuses on electric commercial vehicles. The trucks are being manufactured at a factory in Canada and sold by the brand’s own dealer network, begin to form this month. A short-wheelbase EV410 variant is expected to begin construction at the same plant in 2023.

GM announced the BrightDrop EV600 in January and confirmed production start in September. At the time, GM said FedEx would have the first trucks in time for the holiday season. However, considering that they only delivered the first 5 trucks on December 17th, it looks like things have been cut pretty close.

Next is 2023 Cadillac Lyriq The electric SUV, will be built in Spring Hill, Tennessee, the same plant that used to make Saturn cars. Production is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2022.
