PHOENIX – Synthetic engine More than 65,000 pre-orders have been received for its electric GMC Hummer pickup and SUV, as the automaker tries to accelerate vehicle production to meet demand.
According to Duncan Aldred, Global Vice President of GMC, the number of reservations was higher than the automaker’s initial expectations. He said the volume of bookings into orders to buy Hummer pickup trucks, about 95%, was also higher than expected.
He told CNBC here at a media event: “The production is actually a bit ahead of schedule and we’re putting everything in place to really expedite that, so we can deliver the bookings. This is faster than we initially thought.” “We’re seeing building momentum.”
The Hummer EV pickup truck is for sale, but new orders may not be filled until 2024 due to current pre-orders, Aldred said. The SUV, that GM launched last year After receiving the goods, it is expected to arrive in 2023.
According to Megan Hart, Hummer’s assistant marketing manager, reservations for electric Hummers are mostly for pickups because it was launched first, but newer reservations have been more evenly split between trucks and SUVs, according to Megan Hart, Hummer’s assistant chief marketing officer. The company declined to provide a breakdown between pickup and SUV bookings.
Aldred said March was the best month to book since the car was announced. GMC started advertising for the Hummer EV pickup truck late last month with NBA star Lebron James acts as a celebrity spokesperson for the medium.
“What we’re looking at now is how can we build the maximum number and how can we deliver these bookings as quickly as possible?” Aldred said. “We’re doing all the research on that and we’re confident we can go a lot faster than we initially thought, but it still means booking now can could mean delivery in 24”.

Aldred said the work to increase output includes gathering additional supplies of key components, including battery cells.
GM is still in the early days of Hummer production pick up goods at a factory in Detroit. Older carmakers and new EV startups have ramped up production of new electric vehicles more slowly than previous manufacturers in order to conduct substantial safety and quality control efforts. .
GM sold a Hummer EV pickup in December. The Detroit automaker is expected to report its first-quarter sales, including the Hummer EV, on Friday.
Aldred said the company is on track to produce more vehicles than originally planned. “And similarly next year, we’ll be building significantly more than we originally planned.”
The Hummer EV pickup is an important vehicle for GM. This is the first product to include the Detroit automaker’s next-generation battery cells and platforms, called the Ultium. It is seen as a new mainstream product of the brand and the company.
Aldred said that due to the lower price of the volume vehicle compared to other types of trucks, it is still profitable. GM is currently building a limited edition “Edition 1” of the pickup with a starting price of $110,295. Other, lower-priced versions — ranging from about $80,000 and $100,000 — will follow.
