Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez begged, begged and urged the top names in the £175 weight class to step into the ring to face him. Although he has yet to convince current title holders to write their names on the dotted line, Ramirez may have forced them to take action.

The undefeated 30-year-old from Mazatlan, Sinaloa, Mexico punished Dominic Boesel during the main event of their DAZN tournament tonight at Toyota Arena in Ontario, California.

From the opening bell, a confident Boesel calmly walked to the center of the ring. Moments later, he was greeted by a jab from Ramirez. As the former £168 player continued to tag his man, an eye-catching exchange took place as Ramirez connected with his right hand on Boesel’s elbow.

Soon after, Boesel became in pain before moving on. The second half saw Ramirez overwhelm his man with a flurry of punches as he fatigued against the ropes. Although he is primarily a headhunter, Ramirez refuses to neglect his exercise, doing so with only about a minute left in the round.

Although Boesel proved tough, knocking Ramirez down in the fourth round, the tough Mexican player happily accepted, unleashing dangerous shots at opponents on the edge until he was forced to his knees. Under normal circumstances, when boxers are supposed to choose to kneel, they are immediately charged eight. However, considering how badly Boesel was hurt, their match was ruled out.

With the win, Ramirez not only raised his career record to a stub 44-0, he also became a WBA mandatory challenger to current belt holder, Dmitry Bivol. While Ramirez has repeatedly stated that he wants nothing more than to play against Bivol, the Russian-born player may be forced to choose star heavyweight, Canelo Alvarez. The two recently fought on May 7, at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Though he was judged to be a significantly underdog, Bivol went above and beyond this opportunity, leaving Alvarez beating Alvarez only the second loss of his already bound career in the Walk of Fame. Just seconds after suffering the defeat, Alvarez revealed that he fully plans to issue an immediate rematch clause, a claim he has somewhat backed off.
