There are more than a few people worried about celebrity veteran Gabriel Rosado going up against Gilberto Ramirez this weekend at California’s Long Beach State University. Rosado, while fun to watch in action, has accumulated a lot of wear and tear over the years. It simply doesn’t seem fair to critics that Ramirez, the only one to lose at the gloved hands of Dmitry Bivol, will be the one Rosado will face. After all, Rosado lost the last three games decisively. He is also moving up to lightweight to face Ramirez on Saturday.

It’s no surprise that some fans are quite happy to hear the match has now been cancelled. Ramirez apparently put on weight on Friday – overweight if reports are to be believed – and the fight then had to be halted. The match, which was supposed to be broadcast live on DAZN, was replaced with a throwdown on Joseph Diaz, Jr. – Mercito Gesta doing tomorrow night’s main event. Needless to say, DAZN will broadcast the battle of Diaz-Gesta live.

“There are no excuses,” Ramirez announced via social media. “I have never lost weight in my 45 professional fights. This is the first and last time. I’ve always prided myself on being a professional footballer, but today wasn’t my best moment. On that note, I would like to apologize to all my fans and supporters, Golden Boy Promotions and DAZN for this unfortunate incident. I never gave up trying to lose weight, cutting down to the last moment, but couldn’t lose enough to reach the contracted weight. I am ashamed and upset by my actions and promise that this will never happen again. I will make the appropriate adjustments and will be back soon.”
