Although very disappointed to be knocked out of the original match against Gervonta Davis, Rolando “Rolly” Romero is confident he will get his chance soon. Now, after having cleared his sexual assault allegation, Romero has been proven right.
Davis, a devastating puncher from Baltimore Maryland, will attempt to defend his 135-pound WBA sub-title against the former interim boxer, on May 28. The pair are officially slated to have a match. The competition exploded at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center.
As for Romero, even though he’s been relatively young in his 14 career fights, the 26-year-old has longed to take on Davis, one of boxing’s biggest stars. In an effort to garner interest in their upcoming match, Romero protested to Davis without end.
Romero scratched, scratched, talked trash and mostly fought his way to the biggest night of his celibate life. In 2021, Romero quickly knocked out both Avery Sparrow and Anthony Yigit, stopping both identical men in the seventh round.
Davis, on the other hand, has had an impressive streak of violent victories of his own. The first achievement for Davis, was a brave 140-pound move to knock out former WBA second-place champion Mario Barrios in June 2021. While Davis struggled early on, he was late. finally found their chance and finished their contest before the final bell rang.
For an encore, Davis tried to lock Romero’s lips but, as mentioned earlier, their part was pushed aside. In a short time, 135-pound contender Isaac Cruz came in to replace Romero.
In the end, Cruz proved both tenacious and relentless as Davis went on to produce a decisive near-unanimous victory.
