George Floyd’s sister, LaTonya Floyd, is sharing her thoughts on her brother’s convicted murderer, Derek Chauvin. According to FOX 26 Houston, Floyd forgave Chauvin for his role in her brother’s death.
LaTonya Floyd’s affection comes after the three-year anniversary of her brother’s death, as reported by The Shade Room.

LaTonya Floyd says she must forgive Chauvin to “move forward” with her life
Floyd spoke to reporters from FOX 26 Houston during a recent event. According to the source, she expressed that the world may feel she is “crazy” for her thoughts, but she needs to forgive Chauvin in order to “move forward” with her life. .
“I know America might think I’m crazy when I say this, but I have to get this out of my chest. At this point, three years on, I actually forgive Derek Chauvin for what he did, it was not okay for him to do so. Ok, but I have to forgive him to move on with my life. I’ve run around, I’ve been through a lot, and if our higher power doesn’t forgive us, we’re nothing. We are lost. We get out of there. And I can’t go on living my life with this anger that will lead to hate, such as he used to be. And it would lead to me doing something like that…”
Floyd’s sister went on to explain that she “couldn’t live” with those negative emotions. Additionally, she said she prayed Chauvin would find “peace within himself”.
“…because I’m angry, I’m angry. I can’t live with that in me. So I pray for him, and I pray for him to find peace within himself, and I pray that next time he’s on his knees, he’s kneeling to help someone stand. get up, not pin them down. God has a plan for everyone. I pray for Derek and I truly forgive you, and if you are listening, may the peace of God be with you.”
Philonese Floyd also shared a statement with reporters
George Floyd’s brother, Philonese Floyd, also shared a statement with reporters from FOX 26 Houston. He explained that he is “still waiting” for the government to pass a law banning chokehold.
“All of these things need to be approved. If you want to consider this place that we live in in the United States of America as a great place that people have to fight to get to.”
President Biden seems to have a similar view. On Thursday – the three-year anniversary of Floyd’s death – the president reminded the public of his dedication to passing “meaningful” police reform, The Shade Room reported.

I urge Congress to enact meaningful police reform and get it to my desk… I will continue to do everything in my power to fight for police accountability before Congress and me. remains open to working with Republicans and Democrats alike to find real solutions.”

Derek Chauvin was sentenced to 252 in prison in July, The Shade Room reports. During a public incident that occurred on May 25, 2020, Chauvin — a Minneapolis police officer at the time — was recorded kneeling on Floyd’s neck for 9 minutes.
This action caused George Floyd to die of asphyxiation.
